Lenovo Ideapad Y700 Vs Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series Gaming Laptops

The Lenovo Ideapad Y700 is very similar to the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series. Though Dell is offering their models at a much lower price… Is the Lenovo worth the premium price?

  1. Having the Lenovo Y700 15ISK for 3 months now. I can only state these as drawbacks:

-The HDDs speed is not that good. Even in Mass Effect 1 &2 &3 I had quite slow loading screens because I installed all games in the HDD drive due to space management.
-The RAM, preinstalled, does not seem to be fast as well (8GB preinstalled i think at around 1033hz or something like that)
-The screen seems a bit dim, but removing the filter is not a good option, you risk damaging your screen. But is not bad whatosoever, because of the filter White is a bit yellowish but if you do not use the laptop for photoshoping you will not have any issues you ll get used to it, when gaming or watching movies you wont notice it…
-The keyboard is not excellent (I had VAIO laptops for 10 years in the past and I am used to better quality keyboards) is a bit spongy especially at the number pad, but is something you get used to.
-The display has some issues wich is the only serius one, a lot of light leeking. Mine has this issue, there is nothing you can do about it. Sometimes it can get annoying when watching a movie at night on the laptop.
-The CPU i7…HQ, I cannot understand if and when it boostes up to 3.5 ghz. I am suspicious It seems it allways runs at 2.6. But I have not tested it. My opinion is that there should be a UI option that let me choose CPU clocking speed. F.e if I wanna play I could clock it at 3.5, If i wanna watch a movie at night at 2.6 Ghz. But that s just my opinion.
-An other issue I encounter for first time in my life is the sound hardware. Alhtough the Y700 has great sound. For a laptop it really sounds nice. However, there is a bug on software or a hardware thing, Sometimes the bass works by itself and the "primma" sounds are turned off while on battery mode. I do not know why, there are threads on Lenovo support site as well, no one knows why and how. But, the lenovo Suit turns sound off when in ultra batery save mode, I cannot know if this is built in on the motherboard or configured by the Lenovo Suite programms, but it is weird. It comes and goes like a heekup.

So, for my tastes, the only drawback serious one to consider is the display backlight leek which is a matter of build quality. All other matters are nothing you wont find on a laptop of the same category. I miss VAIO build quality but I am overall OK with this new laptop I got. If you really wanna play some games, as I do, you ll have to upgrade the HDD to SSD and the RAM as well so the overall cost goes up to +140 Euros for RAM at least and +200 Euro for an SSD.

[But remember, it cost something like 1000 Euros so I could not expect more. There are not many options at this price with dedicated 4GB GPUs out there. So I am going to upgrade to an SSD and add more RAM (maybe too to 32 GBs) For better gaming experience buy a 1000 Euro Desktop or a 2500 Euro laptop.)

I checked the Inspiron before buying new laptop as well, and although it was good on paper, by up close it looked way more cheap, the plastic was not that steady, I was afraid it was gonna brake at my hands when I opened the display. its building quality seemd much lower…
Also, the lenovo is very easy to open and upgrade. The dell, I dunno… I have openned friends Dells a few times and was a hell to open and put back. Has anyone upgraded the Dell?

  2. Lenovo y700 or dell inspiron 7559 i7???

  3. so which one would you recommend?

  4. umm why i7 vs i5 you know dell has a i7 version

  5. No hate You should have compared the Y700 with the more powerful inspiron laptop, the version with an i7 6700HQ and a 4k IPS display

  6. i will buy the Lenovo legion y570

  7. Those this laptops is still worth to buy it on 2017¿? And if it is should I buy dell or Lenovo ?

  8. What the actual f**k? He said that 8GB DDR3 is nearly similar to 16GB DDR4??? Kill this guy!!

  9. nobody get a lenovo. they fucking suck. they get overheated way to easily and are loud. also with my lenovo the dc power Jack was burned multiple times (making it impossible to charge) also Dell is cheaper

  10. Only idiot cat compare i7 6700hq vs any I5 !

  11. you got the wrong name it the 7559

  12. Dell 8gb RAM its DDR4, not Ddr3.

  13. the 15 7000 series has had an upgrade, same with the 960m 4 gb but with the 6th gen i7 cpu. it comes with a lot of expandable space for the ram with 2 extra slots for ram. Also has room for the addition of an SSD. So don't be turned down by this vid because all of the listed above is for the same price of $800. It also now has red highlights around the computer for a really nice look to it.

  14. What about the 4 GB DDR4 variant of Y700 ? my budget is $900 max!

  15. Going to have to disagree with you on your opinion. Obviously, your opinions are your own but I can hardly see Dell being the winner when Lenovo hits the nail on the head in almost all departments of a good quality laptop with a fairly acceptable price. Watching your video of the Dell Inspiron 15 after you using it for 6 months doesn't help the Dell win over it's Lenovo rival.

Sure I want to spend as little as possible buying a decent gaming, coding, video editing and photoshopping laptop (I am a Developer (7+ Languages), Linux System Administrator, Photographer and Video Editor looking for a new decent laptop gaming, coding, photoshopping and video editing laptop) but I want something that will last me more than 6 months without failures that simply make the laptop useless after a year of it being my daily driver.

Honestly, it was like a mini reenactment of the presidential vote where everyone spoke so highly of Hilary and so low of Donald, yet Donald won! What a car crash.

  16. I have used both and lenovo is crap
It can't even run gta5 at 60 fps while dell does easily

  17. Between Alienware 13 , Acer Predator 15 and Lenovo Y700 . Which one are the BEST ? Can it play GTA 5 or other High Spec Gaming ? Any suggestions for other Laptops that had same same Price ?

  18. What is the cooling temp when gaming for both laptops

  19. i have both of these laptops. they're combined is still cheaper than the new macbook pro lol. they have pretty much the same hardware and they are fast and powerful. the Lenovo one is slightly faster because of the faster RAM. the Dell I have has the nice 4k screen. anyways, they're both really good laptops.

  20. CComparing an apple to pineapple?

  21. Guys what should I get?
    Lenovo Y700 15.6" Laptop: Core i7-6700HQ, 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 16GB RAM, Nvidia 960M 4GB, Full HD Display $846.00
    OR
Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK 15.6 Inch FHD Laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M $749.99

  22. any problems or things not expected by u while using Dell laptop ….

  23. Yeah so I tried to order this Dell. They kept delaying the delivery time without any notification. So I had to find out myself the laptop was delayed by more than a month! Gave a call to customer service "Sorry sir, some parts aren't available yet.. there is nothing we can do" euh well first you couls gave me heads up. Second you shouldn't say on your website that delivery will be in 3 to 5 workdays. Sadly I had to end up cancelling the order because waiting over a month without any service.. nah sorry.

  24. The Lenovo has the better keyboard, better monitor, better sound, aluminum lid, better cooling but you give the edge in overall design to the Dell? Not sure I follow you on that one.

  25. wtf. y700 vs 7559 i5 ??. what about y700 vs 7566 i7 ?

  26. I live in finland and i bougth y700 its 14 inch and it has ddr4 8gb ram and r9 m375 4gb and i5 6300hq good or nah?

  27. the lenovo is more expensive

  28. Some models of the 7559 also have an i7 processor. I'm considering one myself.

  29. I bought the Dell Inspiron 15 with the i7 for my wife. I got the hybrid drive because I wanted to check it out to see how it performed. My opinion is there is no real reason to use a hybrid drive when you can use a ssd drive. The only things I really notice are Windows startup and a few other common operations are much faster. But when you have to wait on the drive…..well, you have to wait. I play Titanfall and I think the gtx960M actually outperforms my GTX 750ti sc in my desktop. It looks a little nicer for some reason and is really smooth.

  30. Any idea if the 4k screen on i7 of Dell Inspiron 5000 7000 series would be better than FHD screen in term of accuracy for editing? Would you guys recommend the 4k system for photo or video editing. Anyone recently bought the Dell and still have problems with wifi connection? Cheers

  31. "Lenovo, Lenovo, Lenovo.   So in conclusion, buy the Dell"   ??

  32. what i found on the net was that dell have better battery life and now about the heating issues dell have good cooling system whereas the keys in lenovo get heated up
    i need your reviews pls

  33. I was working on both of these machines for quite a while. I can add several things that wasn't said in the review. First, it's somewhat unfair to compare those two, you need to compare same specs, and Dell actually have a model with exactly same i7 processor and you can easely add 8 gigs of RAM. Price wise I can say that they are not that different when comparing same specs.
Speaking about screen – if fact Lenovo is not that brighter, I can say that brightness levels are almost the same. Though Dell has a matte screen which is much more preferable for me personally.
Next is the weight – due to it's metal coat Lenovo weights about 1 kg more and it's quite noticible when carrying laptop in a bag, it's also bigger overall and might not fit into several case sizes.
Sound is also not that different, Lenovo is a bit louder and more on a bass side, though it's not that critical overall, I personally like how Dell sounds.
Another thing to consider is how easy it is to get to the inner things like SSD and RAM, on the DELL it's a breeze, just unscrew one thing and you are inside, fan system is also available right away, you can clean it very easely. Lenovo is much worse in this case, you have about 10 screws on the back and it's overall internal design is much more complicated.
With Dell you can buy 8 gigs version and easely add another 8 gigs, because one slot is empty by default. On Lenovo when you buy a laptop you have a kit of 8×8 or 4×4 so if you want to go to a hihger RAM you will have to throw original ram away, which is not very convinient.

  34. how do you remove that anti glare screen? Is it just to peel it off or do you have to do something special?

  35. Lenovo DDR4 is way faster Ram so how is Dell a better buy with old DDR3

  36. so does it lags when playing high graphics games? and does it looks good when playing? or it lags when playing and it doesn't look very good, im planning on getting one but what if it lags when playing gta 5 or it looks low on resolution

  37. Umm the Lenovo 99% of the time loses in SRGB and ARGB.

  38. hey can you send me a link where you got that Y700 laptop i hope its like a grand

  39. Should I grab it? It's a y700 for $1000

  40. Got the Lenovo Y700 for 770$ from BestBuy on Labor day! :)))

  41. Bought the Dell Inspiron 7559 as my desktop replacement laptop. Hooked it up to my monitor via DVI to HDMI, going to add a corsair keyboard and logitech mouse. I've upgraded the RAM to 16GB and added a 120GB M.2 SSD for the OS. It is a fucking beast.

  42. the moment i saw this guy comparing an i5 with an i7 and different ram configs I stopped watching this video
